You can make levels more consistent among clips, adjust a clip that is too loud or quiet, or mute a clip.</p><p class="paragraph">If you combine particularly loud audio clips on multiple tracks, <span class="Emphasis">clipping</span> (a staccato-like distortion) may occur. To avoid clipping, view the Audio Meters window while playing the movie. The Audio Meters window displays the overall volume level of the clips as you play them. If the meter's red clipping indicators turn on, lower the volume of one or more clips. The peak indicators show the peak volume reached while playing the timeline. (See <a href="1_8_5_0.html"><span class="jump">Displaying, selecting, moving, and copying keyframes</span></a>.) </p><p class="note"><span class="bold">Note:</span> If the original level of a clip is much too high or low, you can change the input level, or <span class="Emphasis">gain</span>.
